Meet the Team - Midlands

Dr Ingrid Britton  - Consultant GI Radiologist (Midlands Imaging Training Academy Director - University Hospitals of North Midlands)

I have worked as a Dr and Radiologist in England, Scotland and Wales and as a Consultant in DGH and Teaching hospitals. My practice is upper and lower GI Radiology but my greatest interest is colorectal radiology. 

I have been involved in training locally, regionally and nationally as a Royal College Tutor, TPD and Midlands Imaging training Academy Director. I was the Radiology lead, establishing the School of Radiography at Keele in 2016, and set up the first PGCert in CTC to improve technique, acquisition and staging, and more recently, reporting, (PERFECTS). This led to the National CTC academy (NCTCA) which opened in 2022, of which Stoke was the first centre of excellence. 

As Director of the Midlands Imaging training Academy, I have overseen over 40 initiatives to improve the access and equity of Radiology training, across all professions within Radiology. I personally delivered the framework for the National Lecture Programmes for ST1-3, and novel methods to accelerate USS training (SHIFT1&2).

I have an interest in quality improvement and was the first QA lead for bowel cancer screening writing the minimum dataset for bowel cancer screening, the national database for radiology and the national and local dashboards and have been involved in the various iterations of standards.

My research interests have included novel risk stratification of colorectal tumours (Foxtrot, Prospect, Aristotle and Serenade), the impact of screening on the staging and treatment of early rectal cancers (Minstrel), evaluations of colorectal treatment regimes (Scot) and upper GI cancers (Espac4, PET-Panc and Occams).

Kate Bryan - Midlands Imaging Training Academy Project Support Assistant (University Hospital of North Midlands)

I have worked for the NHS for the past five years, having started off in Endoscopy as a Booking Assistant, to managing the Lower Endoscopy Waiting List before moving on to Cancer Services as a Cancer Patient Pathway Coordinator which I have recently left after four years running the Skin MDT. 

In my current role as Midlands Imaging Training Academy Project Support Assistant, I will be supporting the operational management of the academy and taking the administrative lead on the Mechanical Thrombectomy Credential.

My passions include working across the region with other Trusts, improving patient care by helping to end the geographical equity with the Mechanical Thrombectomy Credential and developing my project management skills further.

 Hannah Williams - Midlands Imaging Training Academy Project Manager (University Hospitals of North Midlands)

Most of my career has involved working within project management across the Midlands region within the NHS. This has been in predominantly workforce transformation roles. 

Through my career within project management, I have had the opportunity to be involved with multiple portfolio’s. This has included Mental Health, Cancer and Diagnostic, Long-Term conditions and Public Health. Through this I have had the opportunity to manage regional distribution of Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist and Care Navigator training and rolled out Peer Support Worker Training. 

Within my current role as Midlands Imaging Training Academy Project Manager, I have been heavily involved in the operational management of the academy. I have implemented improved governance structures and implemented a pilot for protected clinical placement capacity with Ultrasound, with the intention for it to be rolled out across the region. This has created a more supportive environment for Ultrasound training whilst also support waiting list activity.  

I am particularly interested in improving equitability in access to training across the region and providing clinical staff with the skills required to progress into leadership and management roles.
